Introduction

Hello, world! My name is Rain Kristoff Monastrial, and I am a 1st-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) student.

Entering college is a huge milestone, but choosing Computer Science was an even bigger leap of faith for me. I decided to write my very first technical blog post to document my starting point, reflect on why I chose this field, and outline what I hope to achieve as I grow in the tech community.

Why I Chose Computer Science

Technology is evolving at an incredible pace, and almost every aspect of modern life relies on software. My curiosity about how applications and websites work behind the scenes is what initially drew me to this course. Here are three main reasons why I fell in love with Computer Science:

Problem Solving: Programming is like solving a continuous puzzle. Figuring out logical errors and finding efficient solutions gives an incredible feeling of accomplishment.

Continuous Learning: The tech field never stands still. There is always a new programming language, framework, or tool to explore.

Impact and Innovation: Software empowers individuals to build tools that can help thousands or even millions of people worldwide.

What I Am Learning Right Now

As a freshman, I am currently building my core fundamentals in programming and logic building. We are learning how to translate real-world problems into step-by-step algorithms.

Here is a simple C++ program that demonstrates one of the first concepts I mastered—printing output to the console and using basic functions:

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main() {
    // My first step into technical writing and coding
    string studentName = "Rain Kristoff";
    cout << "Hello! My name is " << studentName << " and I am a 1st Year BSCS Student." << endl;
    cout << "I am excited to build useful applications in the future!" << endl;
    return 0;
}

Learning syntax like input/output streams and data types has been challenging, but practicing consistently makes it much easier every day.

What I Hope to Build in the Future

Looking ahead, my goal is not just to pass my academic courses, but to create real-world projects that solve everyday problems. Here is what I plan to work on during my time in college:

Interactive Web Applications: Web platforms that help students manage their study schedules and academic tasks efficiently.

Community Projects: Open-source tools or local community management systems.

Mobile Utilities: Simple productivity mobile apps that enhance daily workflows.

Let's Connect!

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to read my very first technical blog post! As a 1st-year BSCS student, I know I have a long journey ahead filled with bugs, challenges, and continuous learning.
